Why convert HEIC to JPG?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the format iPhones and iPads have used by default since iOS 11. It is technically excellent — the same photo takes roughly half the storage of a JPG at equal quality, and it supports Live Photos, bursts and 16-bit color. So why does anyone need a HEIC to JPG converter?

Compatibility. Outside the Apple ecosystem, HEIC support is still patchy: older Windows versions ask you to buy a codec just to preview the file, many web forms and CMS uploads reject it, photo labs and printing kiosks often can't read it, and plenty of Android devices, smart TVs, and office tools simply show a broken thumbnail. JPG opens everywhere — every browser, every device, every app made in the last 25 years.

This tool converts HEIC and HEIF photos to JPG (or lossless PNG) directly in your browser using WebAssembly. Unlike most popular converters, nothing is uploaded: there is no server queue, no waiting for uploads on slow connections, no “files are deleted after 2 hours” promise to trust. The conversion is exactly as private as opening the photo on your own computer, which makes it suitable for personal pictures, ID scans and confidential client work.

A few practical tips: keep the quality slider at 90% for an ideal balance of quality and size — it is visually identical to the original for photos. Choose PNG if you need screenshots, graphics or images with text to stay pixel-perfect. And if you would rather avoid HEIC altogether, set your iPhone camera to “Most Compatible” in Settings → Camera → Formats; new photos will then be saved as JPG straight away.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert HEIC to JPG for free?

Drop your HEIC files onto this page (or tap “Choose HEIC files”), and each photo is converted to JPG instantly, right in your browser. Then download the converted images one by one or all at once as a ZIP. No sign-up, no watermark, completely free.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. This converter runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Your photos never leave your device, which makes it safe for private pictures, ID documents and client work. You can even load the page, go offline, and still convert.

Why does my iPhone take HEIC photos instead of JPG?

Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos in HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) by default because it stores the same quality in about half the file size of JPG. The trade-off is compatibility: many Windows apps, websites and printers still expect JPG, which is why converting is so often necessary.

Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?

JPG is a lossy format, but at the default 90% quality setting the difference is invisible in normal use. If you need pixel-perfect output, switch the output format to PNG, which is lossless. You can also raise the JPG quality slider to 100%.

Can I convert many HEIC files at once?

Yes — select or drop as many files as you like and they are converted in a batch. There is no file count limit; the only practical limit is your device's memory. When done, click “Download all as ZIP” to save everything in one file.

How do I stop my iPhone from taking HEIC photos?

On your iPhone open Settings → Camera → Formats and choose “Most Compatible”. New photos will be saved as JPG. Existing HEIC photos stay in HEIC format — convert them with this tool.
